Impact Measurement Devices
Impact measurement is critical in many industrial
processes. Applications such as pressure wash, vessel cleaning
and descaling require high impact levels and accurate distributions
for proper cleaning and scale removal.
Spraying Systems Co. designed and
developed a proprietary device to specifically measure
impact force. It measures data in two axes. Outputs
include impact, lateral and transverse distribution, coverage,
and spray thickness data.
The patented equipment uses a
load cell mounted to a motorized track. The load cell moves
through the entire spray pattern and captures a 3D image of the impact
distribution. The load cell first moves to the outside of the spray pattern.
Then it traverses through the spray, taking measurements at predetermined
intervals. The data collected is converted into a series of 3D plots.
A lateral impact plot provides coverage information
and illustrates the distribution of the impact across the spray. A contour plot of
the nozzle is used to determine the total impact area of
the spray. This data is used to determine the cleaning effectiveness of
a nozzle and is often used in spray characterization studies.
